There are a number of different reasons that you may not be able to login to my.emich. Here is a list of some of the reasons you may not be able to login:
Username Password pair not found
Firewall issue
Pop-up blockers
Wrong username and/or password
Account has been suspended/disabled
Account no longer exists
My.emich is down
Browser issues
My.emich passwords are case sensitive, so make sure you are using the proper case and that the Caps Lock key is not activated. Try logging in once more before preceding to How do I get my username and password for my.emich.
Even if you did not forget your password, you may have to reset your password anyway. Passwords expire automatically for security purposes and should be changed regularly to avoid identify theft or other unfortunate occurrences.
As a result of security risks on the internet (viruses, hackers, etc.) many companies and individuals use firewalls to protect their computers. These firewalls can restrict you from accessing materials or web sites over the Internet. Firewalls can be configured to only allow access to certain IP addresses or ports. If you cannot access my.emich.edu or are having problems accessing parts of the application such as calendar, mail or self-service, you may have a firewall configuration issue. Personal firewalls, such as Norton Internet Security and McAfee Personal Firewall can be set and controlled by the user, however, your worksite may have policies restricting the personal use of work computers and/or making changes to the firewall configuration.
Pop-up blockers (also known as pop-up killers, ad blockers, etc.) are programs that help to keep unwanted advertisements from popping up as you surf the internet. Unfortunately, they may also prevent necessary or beneficial windows from opening. My.emich, such as mail, calendar, and many of the channels all use javascript the same way that these pop-up ads do. So, if you have pop-up blockers installed or activated, you may not be able to access my.emich or some of the other services provided within my.emich.
To access my.emich while you have a pop-up blocker on your computer, you can do the following...
Find and disable all pop-up blocker software (there may be more than one application installed) each time that you need to access my.emich or disable the pop-up blockers for the domain (recommended solution).
Where to find and disable your pop-up blocker software depends on the software. Most are either found in your system tray or in your browser toolbar. You can right-click on the icon in the system tray or left-click on the icon on your browser toolbar and disable. Most pop-up blockers will allow you to turn off the pop-up blocker for a particular site or domain. my.emich.edu’s domain is emich.edu. By turning off the pop-up blocker for the emich.edu domain you will disable the pop-up blocker for mail, calendar and my.emich, allowing all the applications to work within my. This is our recommended solution. Or you can disable the pop-up blocker each time you are using my.emich and re-enable when you are done.
Pop-up killing or ad-blocking functions are now included in many anti-virus, internet security, personal firewall, browser, and search & toolbar programs. Disable the relevant setting in the program while you are in my.emich or disable the pop-up blocker for the domain. Examples include:

If you cannot remember what your password is, you will need to reset your password. To do this you will need to go to my.emich.edu and click on the link that says, “How to get my username and password.” From there you need to follow the steps to get a temporary password. Once you get your temporary password, you need to follow the steps to change that temporary password to something self-selected using the my.emich password qualifications.
Your account may be suspended/disabled if you have tried to login too many times using the wrong password. This is for your own good so that no one can hack into your my.emich account.
Your account may be disabled if you have not taken any classes in the last two years. If it has been less then two years since you have taken classes or have reenrolled and need to have your account reenabled, please contact the IT Help Desk at 734.487.2120.
Your account may no longer exist if you are no longer a student, staff member, or faculty member here at EMU. Your account is guaranteed for two semesters after you graduate, but after that, it could be shut down at any time.
If you are having trouble using my.emich, there may be a problem with your browser or other software on your computer.
You may not be able to login to my.emich is because you may be using a wrong browser.
IE 6.x is the only supported browser with my.emich, however other browsers may work and as long as you are experiencing no problems can be used. If you are using a browser other than IE 6.x and after running through this document following the same procedures relevant to that particular browser you are using and still experiencing problems, you may need to install IE 6.x.
Although IE 6.x is the only supported browser with my.emich, the IT Help Desk has tested several other browsers and have found that following will work. If you are not using one of these listed browsers, we recommend that you go to www.mozilla.com to download a free version of Firefox.

Spyware, parasites, and other deceptive software can cause problems with your browser and/or ability to surf the internet. This may affect your access to my.emich or other websites. My.emich recommends that you check for, then uninstall or temporarily disable these types of software to eliminate problems when accessing my.emich.

Viruses can cause many problems with your computer. If your computer is infected with a virus, you may have trouble using my.emich.
Scan your computer to check for viruses. If you do not have a virus checker, it is strongly recommended that you get one and install it.
McAfee Antivirus software is available to all students/faculty and staff at the following url: it.emich.edu/antivirus. There is no indication on the page that you are there to download antivirus software, however if you follow the instructions, login with you’re my.emich username and password, you will be able to download McAfee’s antivirus software for free.
Two examples of well-known anti-virus programs are McAfee VirusScan and Symantec's Norton AntiVirus. Each of these companies also offer free scanning services:

If you are using high speed dial up for your main connection to the internet, you may not be able to access my.emich.edu.
When trying to log into my.emich, some users have reported getting "403 Forbidden" or "Access Denied" error messages.
One possible cause is an Internet Explorer 6 update installed by Windows Update. Some users found that this problem could be resolved by changing an Internet Explorer setting:

Search toolbars may cause this problem. Users have reported that this problem could be resolved by uninstalling search toolbars from Yahoo!, mySearch, AltaVista, Google, and other sites.
You may be able to uninstall a toolbar through the Windows Control Panel:
Some users have reported that they have had a problem accessing my.emich in NetZero, however if they toggle off the high speed they can login just fine.
