Problems with my.emich

There are a number of different reasons that you may not be able to login to my.emich. Here is a list of some of the reasons you may not be able to login:

Username Password pair not found
Firewall issue
Pop-up blockers
Wrong username and/or password
Account has been suspended/disabled
Account no longer exists
My.emich is down
Browser issues

Spyware and deceptive software
Check your computer for viruses
ISP issues
Known issues

Username Password pair not found

My.emich passwords are case sensitive, so make sure you are using the proper case and that the Caps Lock key is not activated.  Try logging in once more before preceding to How do I get my username and password for my.emich.

Even if you did not forget your password, you may have to reset your password anyway.  Passwords expire automatically for security purposes and should be changed regularly to avoid identify theft or other unfortunate occurrences.

Firewall issue

As a result of security risks on the internet (viruses, hackers, etc.) many companies and individuals use firewalls to protect their computers. These firewalls can restrict you from accessing materials or web sites over the Internet. Firewalls can be configured to only allow access to certain IP addresses or ports. If you cannot access my.emich.edu or are having problems accessing parts of the application such as calendar, mail or self-service, you may have a firewall configuration issue. Personal firewalls, such as Norton Internet Security and McAfee Personal Firewall can be set and controlled by the user, however, your worksite may have policies restricting the personal use of work computers and/or making changes to the firewall configuration.

Pop-up blockers

Pop-up blockers (also known as pop-up killers, ad blockers, etc.) are programs that help to keep unwanted advertisements from popping up as you surf the internet. Unfortunately, they may also prevent necessary or beneficial windows from opening. My.emich, such as mail, calendar, and many of the channels all use javascript the same way that these pop-up ads do. So, if you have pop-up blockers installed or activated, you may not be able to access my.emich or some of the other services provided within my.emich.

To access my.emich while you have a pop-up blocker on your computer, you can do the following...

Find and disable all pop-up blocker software (there may be more than one application installed) each time that you need to access my.emich or disable the pop-up blockers for the domain (recommended solution).

Where to find and disable your pop-up blocker software depends on the software. Most are either found in your system tray or in your browser toolbar. You can right-click on the icon in the system tray or left-click on the icon on your browser toolbar and disable. Most pop-up blockers will allow you to turn off the pop-up blocker for a particular site or domain. my.emich.edu’s domain is emich.edu. By turning off the pop-up blocker for the emich.edu domain you will disable the pop-up blocker for mail, calendar and my.emich, allowing all the applications to work within my. This is our recommended solution. Or you can disable the pop-up blocker each time you are using my.emich and re-enable when you are done.

Pop-up killing or ad-blocking functions are now included in many anti-virus, internet security, personal firewall, browser, and search & toolbar programs. Disable the relevant setting in the program while you are in my.emich or disable the pop-up blocker for the domain. Examples include:

  • Microsoft Windows XP, Service Pack 2-- IE 6.x – pop-up blockers are now activated by default in IE 6.x.
